  Regional Conventions

  wondering if anyone knows when they will announce the regional conventions.

  every year they always announced it the first service meeting of january.

  i tied in last night by phone as my husband insists on going i do not and never will again but i like to book a room now and i refuse to use their list.

  i'm sure there's probably not, but on jwmatch, which i subscribe to for laughs, i got their usual email today saying they found the perfect match for me, he's in hawaii, i'm in nyc, he's 40 and i"m 18 years older, perfect so far, right?

  anyway below is the first line of his narrative introducing himself.

  i am disfellowshipped and likely won't be reinstated until i retire from the military in three years.

  i heard from the semi reliable source that the pioneer schools will go the way of the dodo bird next year.. i could see this happening.

  it used to be that you went to the the pioneer school once.

  then they allowed dubs to go every 5 years.

  of course, no one could ever fully replace "our oracle for over 50 years" (ray franz quoting karl klein or someone else on the gb back in the days of gb i in cofc somewhere ), but i have to wonder just who on gb ii has come to fill fred franz's shoes the most.

  it seems like it is david splane.

  he appears to be in charge of the writing department, proposes and pushes thru the gb most of the doctrinal changes (he announces them so they're his baby), and like ff, fancies himself musically inclined.

  on another thread shepherdless sketched out the past business model of jws and its demise.

  until 1990 they were a straightforward publishing business with the tremendous advantage of free labour in production and free distribution agents.

  since then they've been relying on donations for literature to keep the old model going.

  Man, if I were still in and pioneering, that shit would be so easy. I'd buy the cart myself and just park my ass on the corner. Pop in my headphones and listen to podcasts all day while racking up the time.

  Chaos at Brooklyn Bethel 12/2016

  this was how it was described to me yesterday by a brother who has been there for some 40 years.

  "everyone is about gone; the governing body is set to leave within 2 months; the kitchen and laundry personnel are gone and i have to fend for myself now.".

  "also the aggravation of 4 to 5 business men in suits with clipboards daily checking out the watchtower properties.

  From what I've seen, if the guy is stuck in 'middle management' at Bethel, he's getting the axe. I knew a ton of Bethelites who were there for 20+ years and in that middle run. Bethel elders overseeing a department or sub-department. They were all sent packing.

  they'll definitely sell those buildings. Towers (Clark st) is beautiful and in an amazing location. One of the Willow St. properties was renovated relatively recently.

  i just spoke to my dad who's been an elder since ~'72 and still is.

  he told me about a meeting he just had about kh annual maintenance.

  most of those locations are going to be fairly small buildings. If you factored in the square footage and acreage of ALL the branches, assembly halls, KH's, etc, that MAY be true.
